Italian Cookies "Th'ala"
From the Kitchen of Rose Mauro

Ingredients:
4 cups sifted flour (sift into
      measuring cup to measure)
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. oil
4 whole eggs
2 tsp. vanilla

Method:
Mix flour, baking powder, sugar in a bowl. Mix eggs, vanilla and oil in another bowl, then add to flour mixture. Mix with hands then knead until it all comes together and dough is shinny.  Add flour to hands if sticky. Divide dough in half, in half again, in half again – until you have 32 pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 4-5” long. Curl around the tip of your index finger and place on un-greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or until bottom is golden brown. Cool on rack. To glaze, mix confectioners sugar with flavoring of your choice (lemon, almond, strawberry, etc.), food coloring if you want, and water. Dip top of each piece into glaze in return to rack to dry.
Note: See recipe for Italian Honey Balls for the traditional recipe.
